Camp Au Sable Named one of America’s Best Summer Camps

Michigan Conference’s Camp Au Sable was among the 500 camps selected as a top summer camps based on social media reviews and a comprehensive survey of 30,000 parents.

This is the second year in a row Camp Au Sable has received this distinction.

Newsweek partnered with Plant-A Insights Group to help parents navigate the task of vetting and selecting amongst the 15,000 year-round and summer camps across the U.S. The survey, conducted in 2023 and 2024, was based on nearly 700,000 social media reviews on Google and Facebook. Camps were rated on criteria like selection of offered activities, accessibility, staff-to-children ratio and camp safety.

Michigan Associate Youth Director David Glenn who oversees Camp Au Sable camp reacted to the news saying that God is central to the ministry and by extension their blessings. “It’s a beautiful thing that God allows us to be part of the work of helping each other get to know Him. That is really what Camp Au Sable is: A place dedicated to encouraging and supporting people as they take the next step in getting to know Jesus.”

Glenn further stated he’s thankful for each of the amazing counselors, facilities staff and activities staff. “We (camp staff) are just a bunch of broken people who aspire to lean of Jesus every day,” he said. “This ministry could not happen without their tireless service.”

Four other Adventist camps made the list: Big Lake Youth Camp in Oregon, Camp Cherokee in New York, Lake Whitney Ranch in Texas, and Laurel Lake Camp and Retreat Center in Pennsylvania.
